This is my
husband, Tim. He was destined to be just another backpacking engineer
before he married me, and, as a result, was pulled into this crazy world
of authoring books. Why would he do such a thing? That's where the "for
better or for worse" part comes in. It's not like we net significant
income from these books in any given year. Between donating much of
what we earn to several trail organizations and charities, and spending
thousands of dollars buying food for recipe testing and marketing Tim
wouldn't dream of quitting his day job. There's been many a late night
spent editing where we swore that we would never write another book
again. But like any true addiction, the next morning we are at it again,
plotting ways to secure the next contract.
Tim and I work synergistically
on our books. I generally write the initial draft, then Tim comes in
to make it legible while spicing things up a bit. Tim is an awesome
technical writer who has published dozens of aerospace papers for NASA,
General Electric, and Gulfstream Aerospace. He's even won a few awards
and patents for his work. He's actually kind of cool - in a geeky sort
of way.
This is me. I have a master's degree in marriage-family-child counseling. I have worked with nearly every population you can imagine, from advising senior management at NASA on how to manage problem employees, to counseling transvestite prostitutes with AIDS. I currently teach psychology at a local college.
As important as
writing has become to us, it is our faith and our four wonderful children
that keep us focused on things even higher than our favorite mountain
trails.
